Background
Messer’s Global Sustainability Office is an entrepreneurial and agile group of results-oriented and collaborative practitioners responsible for integrating sustainable practices and principles into Messer’s operations around the world. The team reports to the CEO and works closely with senior leadership in the corporate and regional organization to stay ahead of emerging sustainability policy, to drive progress on environmental, social and governance commitments, to manage sustainability reporting, data and tools, and to engage stakeholders to support and contribute. Principal responsibilities:
Program management
Define scope and program goals, organizing work streams with specific deliverables and phasing
Understand business drivers and levers to meet business targets with flexibility, speed, and determination
Demonstrate a consultative approach to problem solving with transferability of skills and knowledge (use of questions, and business, continuous improvement, and project management tools & frameworks)
Drive and promote sustainability practices and/or initiatives – leading transformation initiatives, e.g., in product innovation, the supply chain, waste management, water conservation and management, decarbonization
Is able to influence multiple levels of business to drive the sustainability agenda and results
Provides thought leadership to translate strategic priorities into actionable plans
Trusted advisor to the business; able to work with varying levels of stakeholders and audiences in the organization
Respected for ability to deliver and work effectively in diverse environments and cultures
Works collaboratively to connect dots, solve problems, escalate issues, find opportunities, and address challenges
Experience implementing change strategies in an organizational context
Execute against ambitious timelines and manage constrained resources in a rapidly evolving environment
Sustainability tools
Lead the selection and implementation of a formalized global ESG data management and reporting platform to support Messer’s sustainability strategy and objectives
Develop data management and reporting structures and mechanisms to ensure real-time performance and assessment against metrics and goals to ensure transparency and accountability
Serve as a subject matter expert for current and emerging ESG reporting standards and frameworks, reporting and rating entities, compliance and regulations
Evaluate, identify, and monitor company reporting, gaps, and improvement opportunities, and develop roadmaps to improve Messer’s ratings and results
Understanding of energy efficiency/sustainability strategies, corporate social responsibility, and employee engagement

Proactive and solutions-oriented, detail-oriented, analytical, able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment.
Strong analytical capabilities, very comfortable with quantitative & financial analysis
Able to see the big picture while still providing good attention to details; able to quantify benefit and identify priorities, trade-off and solution options
Business case development and modelling
Communication and stakeholder management
Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent graphic presentation skills, and the ability to present in front of large groups
Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written
Must be committed to treating colleagues, partners, and clients with dignity and respect at all times
Experience working with C-suite and senior leadership to communicate, influence and drive program/initiative support.
Experience communicating change effectively and to prepare and support those affected by change

Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of work experience
Advanced project management skills (business & analytical mind set)
Consulting experience a plus
Tech savvy with a good understanding of digital technologies preferred
Financial analysis (P&L, Balance Sheet)
Advanced skills in business modeling a plus
Industry experience a plus
Understanding and application of sustainability frameworks
Advanced Power Point and Excel Skills
Familiarity with ESG tools/software
Experience in implementing software in a global setting
Required:
Minimum of 10+ years Business Management experience of which 5 years in Program Management or related experience
Up to 40% travel required
Flexibility to work with a global team and multiple time zones
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management or related field
Master's in Business or MBA preferred
