JOB TITLE: Carpenter
REPORTS TO: Foreman and Superintendents
Summary of position: Position performs routine physical labor; moving materials, tools, and/or equipment; cleaning equipment, vehicles, machinery, and work areas; operating various types of tools, such as, pneumatic, electric, and hand; brush roll or hand brush painting; assisting blasters by pulling hoses, mucking tanks, and removing grit. May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Safely operate man lifts, forklifts, and other industrial equipment to move needed materials and accomplish work.
- Identify correct power tooling for the task at hand and use tools safely.
- Work independently as needed.
- Ability to template and transcribe information to install containment materials correctly.
- Understand complex shapes including round, square, angled, or other odd shapes encountered and create specified containments to protect the surrounding environment.
- Manage material layout to maximize material efficiency.
- Frame and build plastic and wood containments, including dog houses, shipboard bilge containments, protection plugs and blanks.
- Build various shelters and protective coverings to support the project as directed by supervisors.
- May be assigned to small teams involved in paint touchup when these tasks require more personnel.
- Perform all tasks safely.
- All of the above shall be performed in a safe and timely manner.
- Must use problem solving skills.
Required Education: None
Required Experience: Formal or informal on the job training and/or one year experience in the marine industry.
Required Skills: Must be able to cooperate and work well with other employees and shipyard personnel. Must be able to take direction from supervisors or more experienced workers.
