Job Summary

The Officer, Intermodal Development is responsible for evaluating, managing, and implementing projects and initiatives that position Intermodal to effectively deliver growth and improve its performance metrics. The role supports the Intermodal team in decision-making across various aspects of its operations. The position can serve as an opportunity of development for the Manager Intermodal Development role.

Main Responsibilities

Project Development and Management

· Evaluate, plan, and execute mid-level initiatives and construction projects that improve Intermodal operational practices, efficiencies, and capacities

· Influence key stakeholders and build consensus to support effective project delivery

· Coordinate with customers, developers, and engineering consultants

Technical Innovation, Process Analysis, and Evaluation

· Recommend process improvements based on analysis of operating metrics and an understanding of the industry

· Develop and use models and marketing forecasts to evaluate the need for capacity and assets as well as recommend solutions

· Handle Intermodal’s chassis fleet in Canada and the United States (U.S.) including fleet sizing, chassis use agreements, CN’s participation in the Uniform Intermodal Interchange and Facilities Access Agreement (UIIA), and the U.S. chassis pools

· Assist in the evaluation and development of emerging technological innovations and decarbonization initiatives

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office environment and outdoors in various environmental and weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The position requires occasional travel within Canada and to the U.S.

Requirements

Experience

Engineering

· Between 2 to 5 years of experience in rail, terminal operations, marketing, or business analysis

o Experience in civil engineering *

o Experience in operational process*

*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Logistics, or Business

· Professional Engineer Licence obtained or in progress*

· Project Management designation*

*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
