Counseling and Psychiatric Services at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Psychiatry Director! This role works closely with the Executive Medical Director of Health and Wellness Services to ensure collaboration and seamless continuity of care across medical and psychiatry services.
The Director of Psychiatry will lead a team of psychiatrists (MDs/DOs) and psychiatric nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) in providing high-quality, evidence-informed, psychiatric care in line with standard processes for our student population.
The Director of Psychiatry's primary duties will include (1) providing direct clinical services to students as a member of the psychiatry team; (2) serving as a content expert in up-to-date psychiatric care and neuro-psychopharmacology; (3) participating as a member of the Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) Leadership Team (Director, Associate Directors, Assistant Directors) to advise on daily operations; (4) providing direct supervision, management, and oversight to the psychiatry team; and (5) collaborating across Health and Wellness units to ensure safe and effective mental and behavioral care.
Within this framework, duties are carried out with considerable latitude for independent professional judgment and action. This position provides supervision & performance evaluations for the psychiatry staff, supports career development planning for early and mid-career staff, quality assurance and re-credentialing reviews, and monthly medication report audits for the psychiatry staff at CAPS.
This position may also supervise psychiatry staff-in-training if deemed appropriate by the Assistant Director of Training/Training Director.
This position provides direct mental health services to students, including crisis intervention. This position ensures accurate and timely EHR documentation.
This position may also provide after-hours psychiatric (medication) emergency consultations.
The position collaborates with other campus departments as needed for the treatment of CAPS students and ensures that individual experiences and systemic factors are considered in all assessment, treatment, referral, and training services provided.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Clinical
Psychiatric evaluations/intakes and follow-up appointments both in person and via telehealth.
Review critical lab results, as needed.
Review monthly prescription audits for all CAPS psychiatry providers.
Provide after-hours psychiatry coverage as needed.
Documentation of clinical contacts via EHR.
Supervision/Consultation/Training
Provide clinical consultation with non-medical clinical providers (psychologists, professional counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists), psychiatry providers, and across Health and Wellness.
Provide supervision to psychiatric staff in training.
Provide expertise and consultation on Colorado laws and requirements concerning training, licensing, and the provision of psychiatric services in the State of Colorado.
Deliver training to CAPS staff and campus partners on mental health-related topics.
Administrative
Develop and update the CAPS Psychiatry Policies and Procedures to ensure culturally responsive care, standard processes, and optimal operational efficiency for the psychiatry team.
Assess the quality of services provided by the psychiatry team through supervision of the peer review process; implementation of QI projects, and evaluation and career development planning for psychiatry team members through the Performance Management Plan process.
Responsible for the credentialing and privilege of the psychiatry staff in collaboration with Health and Wellness Administrative Services.
Work with the CAPS Director to determine core and special privilege criteria and will have the final approval for clinical privileges for all Licensed Independent Practitioners.
Create strong, collaborative working relationships between the psychiatry team and the rest of the CAPS staff including clinical providers and front desk/administrative staff.
Collaborate across Health and Wellness Services to ensure a streamlined, efficient and timely continuum of care for students.
Sit on various teams and committees within CAPS, Health and Wellness Services, and across campus when necessary and when requested by the CAPS Director.
What You Should Know
This position offers a hybrid work schedule with two remote days and three on-site days per week and flexible hours between 8 AM - 5 PM based on clinic needs and provider preference.
What We Can Offer
The hiring ranges for this position are:
PMHNP: $223,992 - $277,250
MD/DO: $255,015 - $300,000
The salary will be based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Relocation is available for eligible candidates.

What We Require
License to practice medicine as an MD, DO, or PMHNP in the State of Colorado by the date of hire.
Board Certified through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
2+ years of management/supervisory experience leading a team of medical professionals.
Registered with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
Eligibility to obtain medical liability insurance (as needed).
Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
