Custom Job Purpose:
This position exists to perform responsible supervisory work in directing the operation of the vehicle service centers providing safety inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs for automobiles, buses, medium/heavy trucks, tractors and other equipment. Responsible for monitoring of charter school bus transportation to include state inspections and repairs.
Essential Functions of this Job
Supervises the work of all vehicle services managers. Inspects, tests and road tests equipment to determine the nature of defects and failures. Oversees the scheduling of all warranty repairs. Serves as liaison to other departments for vehicle maintenance needs. Assists in the overall operations and functions of the service centers. Conducts random and annual inspections of charter school buses and maintenance records. Recommends vehicles for replacement and oversees disposal of surplus equipment. Recommends, through state contract, vehicles to be purchased. Performs annual performance evaluations on employees. Chairs safety/service committee and recommends changes to service center safety procedures. Responsible for fleet leasing contracts, pool vehicle assignments, and maintaining state required database. Assists the district#s Emergency Operations team with crisis preparedness.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the construction, assembly, adjustment and maintenance of a variety of automobiles, buses, medium/heavy trucks and other equipment. Considerable knowledge of the methods and practices used in parts acquisition and in the repair and maintenance of school buses and automotive equipment. Understands and follows oral and written instructions.
Ability to diagnose defects and relay corrections to shop personnel. Ability to place, inspect and supervise the work of employees. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees, other departments and the public.
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job. Ability to follow DER (Department of Environmental Regulation), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) guidelines as to the handling, storing and disposition of waste material. Knowledge in Emergency Operation procedures when dealing with natural disaster as it pertains to the school district. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements
Graduation from high school or completion of GED. Minimum of 5 years' experience as a repair shop supervisor, including fleet programs, required. Bachelor#s degree preferred. Appropriate State of Florida Driver's License.

Requires working both indoors and outdoors. Requires exposure to outdoor elements, including weather changes, foliage, and insects. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds.
