Bangor Savings Bank Lending Compliance Officer in Bangor, Maine

FUNCTION: Provides daily compliance support to the bank’s lending businesses, with a focus on solutions-oriented and customer-centric advice. Supports the Compliance Department in maintaining strategic alignment between the regulatory environment and bank operations. Responsible for supporting the overall execution and administration of the Bank’s Compliance Management Program.

Provides support for the Risk Management activities of the Bank in a manner that ensures quality and cost efficiency.

Job Description

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of U.S. consumer closed and open-end credit and lending laws and regulations governing consumer and commercial lending activities and their impact on products, operations, and services.

  • Drive implementation of policy and regulatory requirements with a focus on ECOA and Regulation B; HMDA and Regulation C; FDCPA and Regulation F; SAFE Act and Regulations G and H; FCRA and Regulation V; RESPA and Regulation X; TILA and Regulation Z; Flood Insurance Regulations; Mortgage Servicing Rules; UDAAP, Fair Lending, lending practices, and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Provide strategic support to drive innovation for the business while building an effective framework for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Serve as go-to resource for timely compliance advice for the bank’s Residential Mortgage, Consumer Lending, and Commercial Lending businesses and Loan Services function

  • Ability to work with business lines to solve, educate, and train

  • Provide solution-oriented compliance support to assist business partners reach their goals while meeting compliance requirements

  • Participate in the strategic development of products and services.

  • Strong focus on controls and processes with the ability to analyze and implement effective

  • processes.

  • Ability to research, assess and determine regulatory impact to business initiatives and product offerings.

  • Review marketing campaign strategies and advertising materials to effectively mitigate compliance risks and provide regulatory guidance on applicability of credit and lending laws and regulations.

  • Assist with responses to and remediation of lending-related customer complaints and regulatory disputes as needed.

  • Develop and maintain applicable bank policies and advise business partners on operational procedures to help maintain compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Provide guidance and assistance to business line partners in issues remediation.

  • Regularly review the compliance program and recommend appropriate revisions and modifications, including advising leadership and the Board of Directors of potential compliance risk areas. May craft and present periodic and annual reports on the Compliance Management Program to the Board of Directors and leadership.

  • Support lending and credit-related aspects of compliance examinations.

  • Coordinate with internal and independent auditors to ensure that compliance issues are

  • adequately addressed where appropriate.

  • Assist the Director of Compliance and Risk Department in other Risk Management activities as deemed necessary in order to administer the Bank’s enterprise-wide Risk Management Program.

  • Additional duties as requested.

    Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Prior industry, compliance, legal, and/or risk experience required.

  • CRCM designation preferred.

  • Prior exam management experience preferred.

  • Experience with Compliance testing and monitoring and supporting the development of related business QC/QA functions.

  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to influence decisions, communicate and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to interact harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of bank goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.

    General:

  • Conforms to acceptable punctuality/attendance standards as expressed in the Employee Handbook.

    Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years of banking compliance and leadership experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, college, business or banking professional training preferred.

Physical Demands/Conditions Requirements:

  • General office environment.

  • Moderate lifting (to 35 lbs.) required. Moderate reaching, walking, sitting and standing required.
