Johns Hopkins University Sr. Research Program Coordinator in Baltimore, Maryland
We are seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator position who serves as a coordinator for special projects for Dr. Matthew Eisenberg, the director of the Center for Mental Health and Addiction Policy which is affiliated with the Departments of Health Policy and Management, and, Mental Health, at Johns Hopkins University. The Center’s aim is to improve the lives of persons with mental illness and addiction through policy research, translating research evidence into policy and practice, and training the next generation of mental health and addiction policy researchers.
The Special Projects Manager will assess the needs of the Center and establish and sustain processes for organizing, sharing, and promoting the use of knowledge created within the Center, as well as foster the future growth of the Center. This role, which reports directly to Dr. Eisenberg, requires a robust expertise in organizational, operational and management skills, including strategic planning, writing, project design, and implementation. This is an ideal position for somebody who is passionate about translating research into policy and practice. The successful applicant will be someone who enjoys working in teams, shows considerable initiative, and has great attention to detail. This is a chance to support the expansion of a center that brings together multi-disciplinary faculty from the School of Public Health.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Management Tasks
Under the direction of director Dr. Eisenberg and the Center’s Leadership Team, lead initiatives to assess organizational and research capacity-building needs of the Center.
Maintain CMAP website and web presence across media platforms
Develop and maintain a searchable archive for the resources developed by the Center (e.g. reports, publications, presentations, training materials, data collection instruments)
Identify opportunities for dissemination of the Center’s research, including (but not limited to) identifying calls for manuscripts for special issues of relevant journals, tracking submission deadlines, and national meetings/conferences.
Work with the Department’s communications team to promote the Center’s work on social media, drafting issue briefs and graphics
Identify opportunities for professional development for team faculty, staff, and students (workshops and trainings for qualitative research methods, quantitative research methods, etc.)
Assist in compliance with Federal grants
Identify potential grants/research opportunities for the Center that advances the division’s strategic interests and strengthens/expands its research portfolio.
Coordinate with funders and assist in responding to funder queries.
Work with the Center’s leadership to match individual researchers (depending on skill sets, interests, availability, etc.) with program and research opportunities.
Coordinate with our external partners around research translation activities.
Internal Partner Coordination
Maintain list of affiliated CMAP faculty
Coordinate regular communications to CMAP faculty
Track CMAP affiliate publications and media engagement
Event Planning
Plan logistics for small and large events i.e., travel, event venue(s), meeting rooms, A/V needs, food/catering, signage, event agenda etc
Confirm and secure presenters, speakers, and volunteers
Assist with the development of event communications
Disseminate event communications and other relevant information
Edit and format communication materials
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Familiarity with the tasks and skills associated with qualitative and quantitative research, program monitoring, and use of project management/ organization.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline
Three years related experience
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in communication, public health, business/public administration, or related field.
Four years of experience in research-related management with increasing levels of responsibility.
Experience developing/implementing/managing systems to effectively organize research-related processes, activities, outputs, etc.
Demonstrated success in facilitating team-focused approaches as well as internal and external relationships
