GENERAL DESCRIPTION Performs highly complex (senior-level) telecommunications work. Work involves selecting and integrating system components for voice, data, digital, wireless, and video telecommunications networks; and coordinating the installation and maintenance of telecommunications networks at secure correctional facilities, halfway houses, and central and district offices. May serve as a lead worker providing direction to others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per work week and to travel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinates and/or performs preventive maintenance on assigned telecommunications systems, associated software, and peripheral equipment. Investigates and resolves problems and makes updates and changes concerning the operation of telecommunications systems, communications hardware, and equipment. Provides technical expertise in telecommunications syste design and modification and coordinates the installation of office wiring infrastructure. Coordinates and/or plans and prepares for telecommunications network or systems equipment. Coordinates and/or performs installation and maintenance of telecommunications networks and computer hardware. Monitors the operation of voice, data, or video telecommunications equipment and network control consoles. Coordinates and/or plans and prepares for telecommunications network or systems equipment. Organizes and establishes operating controls and procedures for voice or data telecommunications network. May develop operational or administrative policies and procedures. Performs related work as assigned. Reports any presence or perception of racial, ethnic, and/or gender disparities. Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed. Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures: Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible. Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree. Four (4) years of full-time wage-earning experience in electronics or telecommunications installation and maintenance work, voice/data networking, or related field. OR High School diploma or GED. Six (6) years of full-time wage-earning experience in electronics or telecommunications installation and maintenance work, voice/data networking, or related field. Preferred: Bachelors degree with major course work in computer science, management information systems, electronic engineering, or related field. Experience with Avaya, VOIP, or a related telecommunication system. Experience with hosted telecommunication systems. Experience and Education Substitutions: One year of appropriate experience may substitute for one year of college (30 course hours) on a year for year basis. Completed course hours of undergraduate study may substitute for up to four years of experience on a basis of 30 course hours for one year of experience. Completed course hours of graduate study may substitute for up to two years of experience on a basis of 12 graduate course hours for one year of experience. Pro-rated part-time experience may satisfy the experience requirement. Note: Any degree, diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be from an accredited educational institution.
