JOB OBJECTIVE: Performs routine (journey-level) project management work. Work involves supporting the Lead Project Manager of the Administration Division, in planning and executing of projects activities at various levels of completion; monitoring the progress and schedule of projects; and communicating with project stakeholders and other relevant parties. May be assigned duties and responsibilities that includes following up with staff on project activities. The Project Management Intern will work under the general supervision of the Lead Project Manager, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Project Management Internwill support various aspects of project execution, including planning, scheduling, communication, risk management, and reporting, gaining hands-on experience in project management methodologies while learning to manage tasks, track progress, and contribute to the overall success of assigned tasks under close supervision. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about Project Management and Information Technology tools. You will work on projects that will give you hands-on experience in project management methodology, quality assurance and change management. This opportunity will allow you to sharpen your communication and problem-solving skills in a business environment. The Texas Historical Commission summer internship program is from June 2nd through August 8th. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Compiles and distributes project information and project status reports; provides regular updates to the manager, project teams, and others of project status and related issues. 2. Assists in developing project schedules, work plans and resources requirements. 3. Assist in developing criteria for evaluating project needs and other pertinent information related to project assignments. 4. May identify potential project risks and difficulties and design strategies to mitigate or avoid them. 5. Attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team 6. Basic understanding of project management principles and methodologies 7. Provide administrative support for project activities. 8. Help with scheduling meetings and contacting stakeholders. 9. Support taking notes and following action items discussed at the meetings. 10. Help to create presentations. 11. Support in the planning and organizing of training. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 12. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS This Project management Internship opportunity is open to students pursuing a degree in project management, business, or a related field. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Collaborative: use strong interpersonal skills to actively listen and communicate in ways that show flexibility. Self-Directed: Ability to complete tasks with limited supervision. Interested in project management and technology. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Solid written and oral communication skills Strong organizational and time management skills Skill in project management monitoring and in the use of a computer and applicable software REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION, OR LICENSURE:Must have or obtain a valid Drivers License and Defensive Driving Course to be able to operate state vehicles. ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings, weekends, and overnight, as needed. Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking, standing, pulling and pushing, kneeling, stooping, and bending, performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination, and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds.
