Position Overview

The Senior Manager of Accounting will primarily be responsible for the overall management and oversight of the Corporate Accounting team. The Corporate Accounting team encompasses the accounting of all aspects of the general ledger with the exception of the revenue and revenue-related accounts. This includes all assets, liability, equity, compensation and benefit-related accounts and SG&A. This role will manage the Corporate Accounting team through the day-to-day accounting for Aveanna, and the monthly/quarterly/annual close processes. This will include the responsibility to analyze and review calculations, journal entries, reconciliations and variance analyses produced by the team. It will also include the responsibility to provide timely and accurate reconciliations to management and external customers, such as auditors. This individual will also drive process improvements and identify areas to establish best practices across the department.

This role will supervise one or more senior-level staff members (including managers or supervisors as deemed appropriate) as well as staff members and provide learning, development and on the job training to these employees. The Senior Manager will also support the Controller, and complete special projects as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Ownership of the general ledger accounting team – managing leaders and staff members.

  • Prepare quantitative and qualitative analytical reviews. Review detailed journal entries and account reconciliations.

  • Work with internal customers (such as operations team members) and external customers to resolve discrepancies Manage responsibilities in order to meet deadlines

  • Perform variance analyses and account reconciliations in a format acceptable to and consumable by external auditors.

  • Review the work of staff accountant(s), and provide accountant direction, leadership and professional development.

  • Coordinate more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of finance or with other departments inside and outside the Controller’s organization.

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process.

  • Coordinate with the Controller in preparation of deliverables for internal review and year-end audits.

  • Seek opportunities to standardize processes and establish internal control framework over the general ledger accounting process.

  • Proactively seek out and offer up ideas for system efficiencies and business practices improvements.

  • Take personal responsibility for compliance with internal controls under his/her responsibility as documented in connection with SOX procedures.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. This role is hybrid with expectations of 2-3 days in the office weekly during normal business hours.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

  • CPA preferred

  • Minimum 5-7 year experience, including managing a team.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP.

  • Good attention to detail and accuracy of work performed.

  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables, etc).

  • Ability to direct and supervise staff of varying skill levels and experience.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking and customer service skills

  • Ability to multi-task, manage and meet competing deadlines

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
