Job Description:

At Regions, the Corporate Tax Senior Function Manager provides oversight and direction of Regions’ accounting for income taxes and federal income tax compliance and planning functions. This role reports to the Head of Tax and is a key leader responsible for managing financial reporting and federal income tax related matters. Additionally, this role is responsible for the consolidated income tax provision, effective tax rate forecasts, quarterly filings, preparation and review of related financial statement disclosures and all regulatory reporting including stress testing.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partners with the third-party managed services partner to manage and direct all tax managed services:

  • Manages the transition to the managed services model including development of internal processes, controls and efficiencies

  • Optimizes all resources and processes to ensure that all actions required to provide deliverables are properly planned, executed, and delivered

  • Identifies and assists in the implementation of key tax technology initiatives

  • Identifies opportunities to improve the collection of tax process data needs using automation and analytics

  • Collaboration to identify, evaluate and implement tax optimization opportunities that align with the company’s business, financial and risk objectives

  • Manages communications with internal and external auditors

  • Partners across the corporate tax function and collaborates cross-functionally to ensure compliance, minimize risk, and support business line goals and objectives

  • Works closely with cross-functional teams to support business strategies, including mergers and acquisitions

  • Provides tax technical support to business units with respect to the tax aspects of corporate initiatives, pending acquisitions, dispositions, financings, reorganizations (acquisitive and divisive), restructurings, and joint ventures, with a view to optimize taxes

  • Provides federal tax controversy support as needed

  • Maintains and expands current tax technical knowledge and stays abreast of emerging tax issues and legislative developments

  • Oversees/conducts research to support taxability determinations and positions

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

This position is incentive eligible.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Accounting

  • Twelve (12) years of experience in corporate tax, accounting for income taxes, tax function transformation, mergers and acquisitions

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced accounting for income taxes (ASC 740) experience including accounting for acquisitions and divestitures, partnerships, and GAAP accounting method changes

  • Advanced M&A experience including structuring, tax due diligence and integration

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a continuous improvement environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to coordinate effectively with various SMEs and communicate tax positions to tax authorities and senior tax leadership

  • Experience in the implementation of large-scale tax technology transformation and data

  • Self-motivated with advanced project management, organizational, and leadership skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to research and resolve complex tax issues

  • Strong tax technical knowledge with experience covering a broad range of complex and current US and state matters

Compensation Details

Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.

The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.

Median:

$258,390.00 USD

Incentive Pay Plans:

This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary incentive plan. Employees are eligible to receive a discretionary award based on individual, business, and/or company performance.Opportunity to participate in the Long Term Incentive Plan.
