Amazon Design Program Manager, Engineering (GES) in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Amazon's Design and Construction Standards (DCS) team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Design Program Manager to oversee design and construction standards for our rapidly expanding fulfillment network across North America, specifically supporting middle mile distribution network buildings. As a key member of the DCS team, you will be the subject matter expert (SME) for building design standards, ensuring constructability, cost-efficiency, safety, and positive associate experience. You will collaborate with internal teams and external delivery partners to implement design changes and maintain up-to-date standards libraries. This role requires a deep understanding of architectural design, building codes, construction processes, and a passion for continuous improvement.

Key job responsibilities

Serve as the execution teams' primary point of contact and subject matter expert (SME) for building design standards, templates, and code requirements.

Maintain and update standards libraries, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for internal and external stakeholders.

Collaborate with Amazon stakeholder teams to propose, review, and provide feedback on design changes considering factors such as constructability, schedule, safety, associate experience, cost, and sustainability.

Conduct thorough reviews of site-specific designs submitted by AORs (Architects of Record) and GCs (General Contractors) to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.

Lead design deep-dive meetings to review designs, answer questions, and provide guidance to project delivery teams.

Respond to ad-hoc questions and provide technical support to pre-construction (PCM) and construction managers (CM), Architects of Record (AOR), and General Contractors (GC).

Communicate approved design changes to field teams, and conduct training sessions to ensure proper implementation.

Basic Qualifications

  • A completed Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or comparable field.

  • 7+ years of experience as an Architect, Design Program Manager, or in a similar role within the construction industry.

  • Demonstrated expertise in building design, construction processes, and relevant building codes.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM360/ACC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently/formerly licensed Architect.

  • Experience working with large-scale industrial or commercial projects.

  • Experience with change management processes and implementation.

  • Experience working with remote teams and across multiple locations.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $181,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
