Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Professional ( EHS Engineer 3/4) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Apopka, Florida facility.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

The primary role of this position will be to lead environmental, health, and safety (EHS) efforts across the Apopka location and at field sites and offices. Responsibilities will include:

  • Review and interpret existing and proposed EHS regulations to determine applicability and impact on operations. Assists with implementation of EHS programs to comply.

  • Partner with business leaders to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.

  • Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of EHS programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention and risk mitigation.

  • Complete audits, industrial hygiene (IH) sampling, ergonomic assessments, and assist with pollution prevention activities.

  • Assist during accident/incident investigations to help determine root cause and corrective actions

  • Interface with internal and external customers including regulatory representatives, senior management, EHS Committee, and the Emergency Response and Crisis Management teams.

  • Implement EHS management systems, sector-level programs and associated documentation to proactively eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.

Additional roles and responsibilities may include:

  • Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies.

  • Provide timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to the company and regulatory agencies.

  • Write and update EHS plans and procedures.

  • Apply for new permits and renewals.

  • Prepare and coordinate EHS training and conduct instructor-led EHS training.

  • Support the site’s environmental programs (hazardous waste, storm water, wastewater, and air) and environmental sustainability initiatives..

  • Travel and/or provide support to field sites and offices as needed.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in an EHS position; or a Master of Science (MS) in the same disciplines with 3 years of relevant experience; or an Associate's degree and 7 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience with at least two of the four: 1) managing various EHS compliance programs (with an emphasis on occupational safety programs, such as chemical safety/hygiene, ergonomics, lockout/tagout, contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, incident investigations, etc.) based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulations and company policies & procedures; 2) experience in completing industrial hygiene assessments and sampling; 3) oversight of third party consultants/contractors; and/or 4) conducting personal protective equipment assessments and job hazard analysis.

  • Experience in conducting training for crane, fall protection, and forklift operations.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization.

  • Ability to perform job duties with general direction and supervision and to provide technical solutions to complex problems based on sound safety principles.

  • Experience with hazardous waste, storm water, wastewater, and air permits is desirable.

  • Experience with World Class Manufacturing is desirable.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

Basic Qualifications for a Level 4:

  • Bachelor's (BA or BS) degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, or a related field and a minimum of 9 years of experience in an EHS position; or a Master of Science (MS) in the same disciplines with 7 years of experience; or an Associate's degree and 11 years of relevant experience.

  • Extensive experience with: 1) managing various EHS compliance programs (with an emphasis on occupational safety programs, such as chemical safety/hygiene, ergonomics, lockout/tagout, contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, incident investigations, etc.) based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulations and company policies & procedures; 2) completing industrial hygiene assessments and sampling; 3) oversight of third party consultants/contractors; and/or 4) conducting personal protective equipment assessments and job hazard analysis.

  • Extensive experience in conducting training for crane, fall protection, and forklift operations.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization are a must.

  • Ability to analyze complex problems (by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources; consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems; mastering unfamiliar information, tasks and situations quickly and effectively) and develop innovative solutions based on sound scientific principles.

  • Ability to perform job duties without appreciable direction and supervision.

  • Experience with hazardous waste, storm water, wastewater, and air permits is desirable.

  • Experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001, OSHA VPP, etc.) is desirable.

  • Experience with World Class Manufacturing is desirable.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

Salary Range: $84,200 - $126,400

Salary Range 2: $104,400 - $156,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
