Experience organizing and implementing online education and in-person training programs and assessing their effectiveness.

Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training programs, workshops, or learning initiatives.

Proficiency in instructional design methodologies, curriculum development, and learning technologies.

Experience working with a variety of audiences including youth, college students and adult learners.

Experience related to the dairy industry, animal science, and/or animal agriculture.

Experience related to antimicrobial stewardship and/or the science of communication.

Job Description:

Summary

The Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventative Medicine (VMPM) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, Learning and Development Specialist II position. This position will be shared with National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE).

This position is specifically designed to provide educational development support for a recently awarded USDA Sustainable Agricultural Systems grant related to the sustainability of dairy goat production in the United States. Responsibilities of this position include the development of computer-based and in person educational and extension modules. These modules will include novel educational programs for youth, undergraduate students, dairy goat producers and veterinarians that emphasize sustainability and antimicrobial stewardship principles. Additional responsibilities include helping to integrate extension outreach focused on dairy goat production and sustainability and training veterinarians in the art of science communication. The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate content development with multiple subject matter experts and thus will be required to demonstrate strong communication and project management skills for the creation of the educational modules. Example of Duties• Assesses instructional need.• Provides instruction to participants.• Prepares training materials.• Prepares, maintains and operates audio-visual equipment, computer equipment and software and other educational aides.• Solicits feedback from participants via surveys and other mechanisms to determine transference of knowledge and areas of improvement.• Tracks attendance of participants.

The VMPM department has a three-tiered mission of teaching, research and service, and is addressed by a highly-productive faculty, energetic graduate students, and the additional expertise of adjunct faculty. Our research is applied to improvement of animal health, public health and food safety. Our faculty have instructional responsibilities for bacteriology, immunology, virology, microbiology, epidemiology and public health.
