Quality Technician I

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out the day to day activities as they relate to quality on a variety of Switchgear products. The candidate will be a working member of the Quality Assurance Team responsible for leading Quality Assurance initiatives, coordinating process improvements, meeting production schedules, tracking hours/efficiency, assisting with and completing training requirements. The incumbent will follow Caterpillar’s Lean and Built In Quality (BIQ) methodologies in support of the Caterpillar Switchgear Americas Quality Policy and ensure product compliance per CQMS requirements.

ESSENTIAL AUDITOR FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain daily communications with Quality Assurance Team, Quality Engineers, Supervisors, and Managers.

  • Ensure quality expectations are met.

  • Assist the team in problem solving and decision-making efforts.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor/ Manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Verify that all In Process Quality Check forms are properly completed in each Quality Gate.

  • Verify all components are correct per the project drawings.

  • Verify all component labels are correct and legible per the project drawings.

  • Perform continuity checks with voltage meter when applicable to projects

  • Verify all circuits are present and installed in the correct location per project drawings.

  • Verify that the QC print has been highlighted with all circuits that have been checked.

  • Record and monitor quality data and assist with corrective actions

  • Able to perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

Basic Qualifications:

Previous experience in building switchgear product.

Previous quality experience in a manufacturing environment.

Previous experience with inspection and auditing processes.

Experience reading and understanding factory orders, schematics, work tickets, torque specifications.

One – three years of previous assembly or troubleshooting/repairing/operating equipment experience

Must be able to work safely and maintain focus throughout the day.

Previous experience working within the Caterpillar computer network platforms as they relate to quality. (AQE/TMI/OASIS/PRWB).

Moderate system proficiency and data input, and the ability to identify, report, and track recurring issues.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

Strong aptitude in data management that support the presentation of Quality metrics.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Experience investigating customer concerns and tracing problems back to the source.

Strong attention to detail

Communicate daily with supporting departments as needed to ensure their work is correct and accurate.

Ability to perform tasks under time constraints.

Ability to multitask and prioritize work.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the ability to work in a fast pace, medium to heavy duty assembly, technical environment.

Work may involve frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and standing on concrete for 10 hours.

Ability to lift 25lbs and withstand frequent repetitive movement of hands with a variety of tooling.
