Job Description
Responsible for providing engineering technician support in the area of ballistics, wheeled and tracked vehicles, and/or materials with assigned responsibility within the subject matter field for providing detailed analysis and evaluation for a variety of engineering problems. Such projects and problems are characterized by the need to establish and assess the adequacy of design treatment, to develop solutions for a variety of non-recurring problems in instrumentation and measurement, and to anticipate future needs and trends or explore the possibility of new approaches to overcome current engineering limitations or find solutions to continuing problems. Such work requires knowledge of and competence in mechanical engineering principles and techniques as well as general knowledge of related mathematics and other engineering disciplines such as electrical/electronic and a technical knowledge of computer systems programming and analysis necessary to develop effective programs. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the following duties: * Develops tests and methods, searching all pertinent literature and references; studies the behavior, properties, mechanics, design and analysis of materials, vehicles, and weapons, evaluates possible approaches and methods to use; devises, modifies, performs, or directs tests; evaluates and interprets data and prepares written report which summarizes the test methods, uses and limitations, and provides recommendations and conclusions.? * Performs visual inspection, magnetic particle testing, eddy current, liquid penetration, ultrasonic, industrial radiography; measurements using scopes, gauges, and a full range of mechanical and computerized and electronic measurement equipment; inspection, dimensioning, and tolerances. * Examples of work assignments in this area and within scope and complexity is the development and performance of ballistic measurements evaluation techniques for vulnerability tests of armored vehicles, development of techniques involving detection, visual and optical measurement, and analysis of damage to combat vehicles/equipment from applications of a variety of attack criteria related to the activity’s Vulnerability/ Survivability Testing Program, perform back face deformation measurements, uses copper crusher gages for ballistic measurement to assess the peak pressure of artillery weapons, and operates portable coordinate measuring machines. * Evaluates new instruments, equipment, and material in specialty area, including those which may automate methods currently performed manually, for use by this activity and which may influence data presented and testing work performed at other proving grounds, other commands, other services, and the like. * Evaluates tests and methods in the specialty area to determine deficiencies and need or useful improvement and to effect efficiencies. * Determines instrumentation, equipment, and system requirements and provides input to the activity plan for acquisition of new instrumentation, equipment and materiel, and modernization of existing items. * Prepares and updates specifications, standards and procedures. * Requires competence in use of portable coordinate measuring machine, chamber pressure measurement gauges, and visual and optical measurements using optical instrument.
Qualifications
Pay Rate: $48.21/Hour Required Skills and Qualifications * Must have 5 yr. of applicable experience or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate’s Degree and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 4 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year applicable experience. * Shall possess basic computer skills. * Shall possess FARO CAM2, FARO ScanArm and GeoMagic, and PolyWorks training. * Shall possess a license to operate forklift(s) and other required support equipment. * Shall possess Overhead Bridge Crane Operator License. Physical Demands and Working Conditions * The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment and sometimes in the field where you are subject to the environment. * Must be capable of lifting 25 lbs. unassisted. * Must have good manual dexterity. * Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned. * Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the duties and responsibilities. Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements * Must be a U.S. Citizen. * Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. * Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions. * Must pass a pre-employment drug screening periodic retest. * Must be able to successfully complete a background screening. * Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
