The Opportunity

Our Electronics, Mechanical, and TPM (EMT) Global Procurement organization has an opportunity in direct materials for a Senior Manager Category Procurement leading the High Tech category team. This team is responsible for the development and execution of Abbott’s High Tech category strategy with an estimated $300MM annual spend covering embedded software, cables, and various off-the-shelf electronic devices/components. The Senior Manager will support and influence internal/external stakeholders to ensure engagement, alignment, and business readiness to drive improvements in quality, sustainability, supply chain risk, total cost of ownership, and technological capability of our supply base. This global role provides an opportunity to lead and work within diverse multi-functional teams and will collaborate with various Global Procurement direct material groups and Abbott Divisions. Serves as the primary point of contact for overall High Tech category needs.

This position may be located in one of the following Abbott locations: Abbott Park, IL; Willis Tower, Chicago, IL; or Plymouth, MN.

What You’ll Work On

Strategic Thinking and Category Management:

  • Drive "One Abbott Procurement" vision across divisions globally and influence synergies among divisions. Work closely with key stakeholders in both Corporate and Division organizations to develop effective cost reduction strategies and network optimization for High Tech category.

  • Create, own, and maintain a category strategy for High Tech supported by detailed market and supplier data analysis. Clearly define category taxonomy. Category strategy includes assessment of the overall needs of the Abbott divisions.

  • Influence the business and translate business strategy from a supply chain and procurement perspective to ensure implementation of key projects impacting High Tech category strategy are completed successfully.

  • Responsible for prioritizing demand globally across the category.

  • Maintain knowledge of relevant market trends, behaviors, and assessment of the impact to Abbott. Monitor market dynamics for category across regions. Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders for required actions and changes to High Tech category strategy as a result of the market impact.

  • Drive Total Cost of Ownership reductions for category including optimization of supply network (Tier 2 and 3 suppliers), cost models, and implementation of category and supplier strategies. Proactively identify opportunities to drive efficiencies/process improvements, cost reductions and new business opportunities within categories and technologies.

  • Lead supplier selection, negotiation efforts, and supplier contracts for identified projects in High Tech category. Provide support/expertise to internal stakeholders when led by division procurement team.

  • Provide insight to the business unit on how to best develop and leverage supplier capabilities for the organization(s).

  • Identify and elevate areas of highest risk within the category and lead multi-functional teams to develop actionable risk mitigation strategies.

Relationship Management:

  • Nurture stakeholder relationships by serving as a business partner, help identify critical business requirements and provide sourcing and procurement services that meet expectations.

  • Influence and partner with business leaders (Director, Sr. Director level) to manage and align the category. Closely collaborate with adjacent business departments to ensure adequate and timely delivery of agreed services, in line with agreed service levels.

  • Partner and collaborate with key One Procurement staff to support cross divisional business initiatives, explore Procurement synergies and efficiencies while implementing High Tech category strategy.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships across a multi-functional network of stakeholders (upstream, downstream, and peer) in order to ensure that any strategy supports the needs of the business, and to facilitate initial buy-in, ongoing engagement, and support for execution of the global strategy at all levels.

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key category suppliers through supplier relationship management with the intent to add value to Abbott, reduce risk of supply, and reduce total cost of ownership for Abbott.

  • Develop new key suppliers based on knowledge gathering from capabilities assessment and Abbott needs.

  • Demonstrate strong executive presence and communication skills to provide thoughtful solutions to global problems and articulate status reports including challenges, define risks and mitigation approaches.

Leading People:

  • Coach, mentor, and indirectly lead individuals within various functions to drive effective performance on key deliverables and category strategy implementation.

  • Responsible for people leadership of High Tech category team. Recruit, mentor, train and develop talent. Address people issues in a constructive and timely manner. Responsible for overall morale of High Tech team and promote a cohesive positive attitude.

  • Manage category projects across business units and Abbott-wide, when and where applicable.

  • Lead initiatives that span virtual teams across the world and cross cultures.

  • Foster a collaborative, “win as a team” environment with a growth mindset and continuous improvement focus across the organization.

Compliance:

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate across corporate, functions, and divisions to share best practices and adherence to guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • BA, BS, or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years combined experience within Procurement, Supply Chain management, technical experience in related category, and/or related buy/sell experience such as legal and sales.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or similar certification desirable.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including executive communication.

  • Excellent interdisciplinary, intercultural, and networking skills.

  • Experience with business process knowledge and supplier management, as related to Procurement and Category Management.

  • Extensive knowledge of category technologies and products including knowledge of markets by regions.

  • Strong influence and negotiating skills.

  • Ability to succeed in a collaborative, fast paced environment.

  • Ability to remain flexible and adjust to new demands and respond with a sense of urgency.

  • Ability to work well in a cross-functional, matrix management environment with a highly collaborative, team-oriented approach to problem solving.

  • Organized and efficient, results-oriented, and able to move forward without complete information, comfortable working in ambiguity.

The base pay for this position is $125,300.00 – $250,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
